On the Route

Croagh Patrick

Rising from sea level to a lofty 764m peak, Croagh Patrick is a testing challenge for anyone, barefoot pilgrim or booted hill walker. There’s a clear route to the summit from the carpark in Murrisk but only climb it if you have appropriate footwear and you are well prepared. It takes about 3 hours to the summit and back – or you can cheat and just walk ten minutes and admire the view from the statue of St. Patrick. Across the road is the dramatic Famine Ship sculpture by John Behan and the beautiful waterside ruins of Murrisk Abbey.
